Family Farmers Fund
A billion people that rely on agriculture for their subsistence and income live in extreme poverty – with incomes less than $1.25 per day. Children are frequently malnourished and many heads of households choose to leave their families and go to large commercial areas (frequently in the United States) to seek an income that can support their families.
The Miguel and Maria Sandoval family were typical of what Growers First encounters on its missions to remote farming communities. The Sandovals live in the mountain region of Honduras and their small home – though spotlessly clean – amplified all that was lacking – no food, water, blankets or beds and no medicines for them or their children. Growers First equips isolated indigenous farmers to undertake long term economic and community development through outreach and partnership.
Similarly, the Dominguez family in Oaxaca, Mexico was facing the need for Pablo to move away from the family’s 3 acre farm in order to supplement their meager $338 annual income. The family did not eat regular meals and the children went without any professional medical care.
In both cases, through their own efforts and the ongoing support and programs provided by Growers First over several years, these families have remained united and have achieved a sustainable income that provides a significantly improved quality of life. They now have access to medical care, their children can go to school and they have the resources to provide adequate nourishment.
Through the Growers First Family Farmers Fund you can help a poor family achieve significant and sustainable economic increase and provide them with medical and dental care, educational opportunities and hope for an improved future. $30 monthly/$360 yearly.
