Mission & Goals
Over a billion people in developing countries live on less than $1 per day, mostly in agricultural communities. They want what we all want: healthy children, a decent living, hope for the future and the opportunity to realize their dreams. Yet most of these farmers struggle to provide even subsistence living for their families, and have little or no access to basic health care and education. Working at the ground level, Growers First uses farm programs to build strong communities that keep families together and improve the quality of life.
At Growers First, we believe that the inequity and injustices to small growers in developing countries can be minimized through the training, education and collaborative efforts that we provide. Current market practices deprive small indigenous growers of the ability to earn an equitable income, forcing heads of households to relocate to larger commercial areas to provide income for their families. By creating and growing successful micro-enterprises, farmers can produce a sustainable income for themselves and their families that contribute to a better economic and social quality of life.
We envision Growers First as the catalyst for this change, producing a positive transformation through: an increased presence in the geographic areas we are currently providing service to; by penetrating additional areas where our programs are needed.
By joining forces with other NGOs and commercial partners we can replicate our successful models of sustainability to poor indigenous growers around the world.
